SBJ Elevation, based in San Diego, CA, provides mezzanine debt and equity to US based companies in the healthcare, technology and business services industries with an impact focus on quality jobs.  The firm is part of SBJ Capital which has ~$600 million of capital under management. SBJ Elevation invests up to $25 million per company and targets businesses with $10 to $100 million of revenue and $1 to $10 million of EBITDA at the time of investment and provides operational resources, strategic advice, and a partnership-oriented approach to help businesses achieve their full potential. 

Position Summary:

SBJ Elevation is seeking to hire an Associate or Senior Associate to become a key player in the investment process, including evaluating new investments, underwriting and structuring investments, supporting the due diligence process and ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies. This position will work closely with the firm’s Partners and have the opportunity to work with portfolio company executives (CEOs, CFOs, etc.) in support of SBJ Elevation’s role on the board of directors of portfolio companies.

This candidate must thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with the ability to work in less structured environments with minimal oversight.

Position Responsibilities:

• Supporting all aspects of the investment process including analyzing, evaluating and executing subordinated debt and equity investment opportunities
• Conducting due diligence and financial analysis on potential investments, including participating in management presentations of prospect companies
• Researching investment target’s competitive position, market size and industry dynamics
• Building investment models for debt and equity transactions to analyze investment returns and impact to fund portfolio
• Developing financial analyses, reports and presentations to facilitate making investment and business decisions
• Quickly develop a sense of what makes an appropriate SBJ Elevation investment opportunity
• Prepare for, participate and document calls with third party diligence providers, including legal, accounting and industry specific consultants
• Assisting with the preparation of investment memos and supporting the presentation of investment recommendations to the firm’s investment committee
• Ongoing monitoring of portfolio company performance including creating and tracking company financial performance and KPIs

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting and/or other related field
• 3-6 years of total experience including a strong academic background
• Relevant professional experience in investment banking, private credit and/or private equity
• Demonstrated history of building P&L, B/S and Cash flow based accounting/investment models
• Team player with proven ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Very strong verbal and written communication skills
• Advanced proficiency in MS office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Exceptional interpersonal and quantitative skill set
• Self-starter with the ability to work in a lean team environment with limited supervisory oversight
• Strong attention to detail
• Superior analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability and willingness to travel
• Strong integrity and professionalism
