Lippes Mathias LLP has announced it served as legal counsel to Enceladus Partners in its investment in Smith Excavating, LLC (SMEX). Enceladus Partners is a family office that focuses on partnering with businesses in the lower middle-market. 

SMEX, headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, specializes in tech-enabled critical maintenance services for customers in the infrastructure, utility, and government end-markets across the Mid-Atlantic region. The investment was completed in partnership with Matthew Smith, a second-generation family member and CEO of SMEX. 

The Lippes Mathias deal team was led by John J. Koeppel, a partner and leader of the firm's private equity and independent sponsor practice teams, senior PE / M&A associate J. Tyler Finn, PE / M&A associates Alana M. Becker and Christopher J. Kolber, and tax counsel Thomas A. Mitchell.
